Camden power station, in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, has been revived after many years of closure. The plant was mothballed in 1988, but has been recommissioned to meet the demands of South Africa’s rapidly expanding economy. President Jacob Zuma and state power utility Eskom officially re-opened the 1 600MW station on 21 October 2010, making it the biggest such facility in the country to be brought back to life.
